The USATF Coaches Advisory Committee is planning to implement a new minimal competency to the Coaches Registry. 2018 is the tentative date for enforcing this new requirement. You only have to complete or be current with one of these requirements. Proposed acceptable ways to meet this requirement include:
1. NFHS Coaching Track and Field course (online) – $75 ($65 w/ USATF membership)
2. USATF Level 1, 2 or 3 completion – $190 and up
3. USTFCCCA Specialist course (online) – $195
4. *Body of work clause for coaches who have coached an athlete to USATF National Championship or International Championship and set years of experience. (Additional clarification will likely be established during the National Meeting in December 2017.)

*It is highly recommend that anyone looking to be on the coaches registry next year complete one (1) of these requirements sooner than later to avoid delays next track season. This new requirement will be in addition to the other standard requirements for the coaches registry.

Coaches are reminded to renew their status on the USATF Coaches Registry to maintain eligibility for obtaining a credential at USATF Indoor and Outdoor Championships and select USATF Coaching Education Programs, including the Level 2 School, coaching enhancement grants, and the Emerging Elite Coaches Clinic. Please verify your status on the USATF Coaches Registry by accessing the published list.
A summary of registered coach requirements and steps is listed below. Do not delay renewal or submission of the required background screen, as processing may take up to two (2) weeks. No applications for the Coaches Registry will be processed during the credentialing process at USATF Championship meets.
1. Be a current USATF member
2. Pass the USATF background screen
3. Complete USOC SafeSport course
4. Accept and adhere to the SafeSport Handbook
5. List current coaching affiliation in the application process

USATF Coaching Education has implemented a recertification component to the Level 1 curriculum. Recertification for Level 1 coaches will be required on a 4-year cycle. To open the new recertification, a “grandfather clause” will be offered from January 1, 2013, through December 31, 2020. A coach who received a Level 1 certification prior to January 1, 2013, and has not obtained an USATF Level 2 certification must meet the new recertification guidelines. A coach who fails to recertify through the 2020 Olympic quadrennium as of December 31, 2016, will be removed from the USATF coach certification database.
