Background Check Information

COACHES, OFFICIALS, VOLUNTEERS

Effective immediately, until notice is given otherwise, those who completed background checks and are listed in USATF site as having done so and request the $8.00 reimbursement may do so by the USATFNE annual meeting in September or by October 1 each year. The checks will be issued to the clubs to avoid writing so many individual checks and the clubs will disburse the funds to those eligible members. (Since those dates have passed please do by December 1, 2016 for this year only.)

USA Track & Field has implemented a criminal background screening program on coaches and volunteers of youth clubs.

Background Checks have been implemented by USATF to:
1. Promote a safe, nurturing, and supportive athletic environment in which youth athletes can pursue their athletic goals;
2. Provide an environment where parents can feel good about allowing their child to participate in the sport of track and field.
3. Maintain the sport of track and field as a hostile environment for those who would seek to harm youth athletes.

Youth coaches, officials, and volunteers are strongly encouraged to complete a background check. Go here start the screening process.

SafeSport offers training regarding misconduct in sport and the measures we can all take to protect athletes. Learning about the six types of misconduct is an important step to recognize, reduce and respond effectively to inappropriate and potential harmful behavior.
